Settling In

The last few days have been a whirlwind...Daddy had to go back to work on Monday (sad) so Baby Ty and I have been finding our rhythm without him. I'm pretty sleepy...it's a big shift taking all the night feedings...but I'm enjoying it all.

Our biggest problem is that little guy doesn't ever want to be set down...truth be told I don't really want to put him down...but there are things that must be done (like brushing one's teeth!) Today, I wore him most of the day in a wrap and it was perfect! He was as content as can be and I managed to get us unpacked, finished the birth announcements, straightened the house, and walked to the bank and the post office...all before 2:00pm (this was a major feat!)

I think we'll try it again tomorrow...
I will never tire of having him close to my heart. My eyes well with love for this boy. We've had lots of visitors!!!
Cousin Nya is completely infatuated with little Ty.
So sweet!!Besties and their buddies. Baby Parker is 11 days older than Ty. Man I look tired...
Ty is changing everyday. He gave us his first real coo, today and finally agreed to sit in his swing...as long as it's not moving. Baby steps! Our favorite part of the day is when Daddy gets home. He tells us how much he missed us and showers our cheeks with kisses.

It feels so good to finally have a family to call my own.

  1. A suggestion for the swing...... take a towel and hang it from the back of the swing so it hangs down. That will cause a little resistance and it will swing slower. Most of the time swing go to fast for little babies. Try that and see if it Ty likes it better.

  7. I can't get over how much HAIR he has!!!

My oldest never wanted to be set down. I ended up holding her for about 10-11 months before she finally decided she was ready to "cut the cord" and sleep in her own bed. She's done amazing ever since!

So don't feel you can't hold him. I know some people freak out and tell you to break that habit early on. But each baby is unique and needs to be treated different.

  9. I've been away from the blogworld since April... I just read everything I missed. My eyes are swollen from crying so much... But they are happy tears. I'm so happy for you! Congratulations! God bless your beautiful family. :o) -Maru

  10. If you are constantly holding him then he will protest when you put him down. You do need some time to yourself and yes I do think that you can spoil them at this young of an age. If you start it now then it will only cause problems later on. You need to keep to a schedule.

  15. I say ignore every single word of that anonymous commenter...you're a new mama after years of heartache and it's not going to hurt Ty one bit to dote over him! :) When he's 9 months and turns into a stinker, then you'll need to put him...oh, wait...then you'll be carrying him around all day again! :) Or maybe that's just me. Anyhow, we had the same wrap and swing, too, and loved both. He is precious!!

and it doesn't change...it just gets better...the lovin...the tiredness stays...for a few months...but there are good nights and not so good nights...

  19. :) I wouldn't want to put him down either! it was amazing to see parker and see how much more alert and wake Ty will be in 11 days or so.

i feel bad ben had to go back to work, i am sure he thinks about you guys all day long, but eventually life will be back to it's new normal and you will be in a routine.

i am glad things are going well and that you guys are enjoying being a family of three!!!

  20. Great pictures! He is such a handsome little guy. Don't worry for one second about not wanting to put him down... you've waited so long for this! You look truly happy, even if you're tired.

What kind of wrap is that, by the way?

  21. I'm so happy you and your family are settling in. It must be such an adjustment, but a happy adjustment. :-D

  22. I remember those days so well. Good for you getting all that stuff done! Take all the help that is offered or you'll wear yourself out. God bless!

  23. We rarely set Isabel down too but I never found a sling I liked to carry her in. She never liked the swing either although enjoyed the one at the church nursery!
Hold him as much as you want, you've waited for this. You've got a few months before he'll become spoiled by it.

He's adorable! You'll get sleep eventually.

  24. To babies, being snuggled by Mommy is a NEED! Cuddling him close to your heart keeps him happy and contented (as you've already discoverd). Ignore the anonymous poster who tried to tell you otherwise. You've waited this long to have your son, why put him down and deny yourself happiness!?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Haha. Zachary wanted to be held a lot too. Keep him close to your heart for now. In a blink of an eye he will be squirming out of your hands wanting to get down and run around. :) Love the pictures. Couisn Nya is GORGEOUS! LOVE her skin! Ty is just precious! Keep the pics coming! BTW, you look GREAT!!!!

  26. Congratulations on your precious son. Hold him and love on him just as you are. Keeping to a schedule at this young age is impossible and absurd. If you were nursing and fed on demand, scheduling would go by the wayside at this point. Ignore that anonymous commenter!

  27. I too say forget that first annon.

I could have cared less about all the well meaning advice on schedules and not only did we cosleep but I also wore him constantly until he was nearly 8 months.

Around this time he learned to crawl and mama was history :) He moved out of our room then into his own in a crib and never looked back. I relish the memories of that sweet time.

My children are not demanding or fussy or too attached. In fact they are really independent, happy, and well disciplined. So you enjoy that baby mama, you've waited too long :)

  28. I really enjoy seeing the baby grow. I have read both your blog and the birth mom's blog and it all is so exciting and so loving on both sides. Keep holding him....he will be in school before you know it and he won't want you to hold him much! Keep blogging so we can watch him grow.

  29. So glad you guys are settling in so wonderfully! Love Ty's little mohawk...so precious! And the picture of him swaddled is just adorable, too. :)

  30. WOW I look tired...at least you have make-up on :) LOVE seeing our boys together.

  31. Oh I'm so glad you're home and settling in! I've been trapped in a whirlwind of my own these last few weeks, but it's all so much fun.

Ty is getting bigger, already! Scary yet sweet how quickly they change and grow!!

I can't wait for real hugs from you!!

  32. I agree with Karen and others...hold him, cuddle him, kiss him and give him whatever he needs. This is such an important bonding time, you won't ever want to look back and second guess a minute of it! But then I have a feeling you already know this. :)

    Ty is adorable.

  33. If that's how you look tired... You're gorgeous and glowing! And I, too, am interested in what wraps you use. At just over 2 weeks, I'm w/ most comments thinking it's normal at this age to need body contact. It's gotta be scary adapting to this big airy world!

  34. See... I knew I should have gotten a wrap back when Wyatt demanded to be held all the time. What a great solution! I'm impressed that not only were you able to get everything done... but by 2pm! That is awesome!

And to the anonymous commentor, I felt the way you do in the beginning and tried to "train" my son from the time he was just a few days old... to no avail. That boy just wanted to be held, no two ways about it, until he was two months old. Now, four months later, he loves to lay on the floor, in his crib, on his stomach, on his back... and he isn't spoiled at all. In fact, in retrospect, I believe God purposely gave me a baby that needed to be held because otherwise I would have put him down too often in order to keep up on my to-do list--and missed out on those precious, fleeting days of brand new, teeny baby snuggling.

  35. thank goodness for wraps, cousins and miracles! :) so happy you are home and settling in.....ahhh i remember that feeling like it was yesterday. :) each day will just get better and better! :)

  36. Oh I know how tiring it can be to have a baby that wants to be held so much but enjoy every minute. It goes by so fast. Maybe he will learn to love the sling and it will become second nature to just "wear him" around. He sure looks like Skyler these days. Glad you are doing so well.

  37. R,

A while back you talked about a list of things you brought on the trip to Ty's birth place and the stay thereafter.

When you get a chance (not like you are busy or anything) can you describe what worked and what didn't while you were waiting for the interstate paperwork to be filled out and you were staying in the cottage.

We are still in wait mode and I rely heavily on all the experiences I read about in each phase of this process from people
    s blog.

You especially have been so good about giving so many details and it is really appreciated by all of us.

    Thanks in advance
